Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Brian Flynn tied the game late in the third period to force overtime and produced the lone goal of the shootout as the Buffalo Sabres finished off a home-and-home sweep of the Montreal Canadiens with a 4-3 victory on Saturday. After each teams first four shootout participants were unsuccessful, Tomas Plekanec followed suit for Montreal as Jhonas Enroth calmly turned aside his offering with a stick save. Flynn put an end to the skills competition with a shot into an open net off a slick backhand-forehand deke past a sliding Dustin Tokarski. Zemgus Girgensons and Chris Stewart also scored in regulation for the Sabres, who defeated Montreal 2-1 on Friday. Enroth turned aside 41 shots and stopped five more in the shootout. Jhonas Enroth was great tonight. He made some timely stops, Flynn said. If he saves five in a row, you need to win the game. Brendan Gallagher, Max Pacioretty and Lars Eller all lit the lamp for Montreal, which has lost its last three games. Tokarski made 23 saves in defeat. After Marcus Foligno blocked a shot in the defensive zone, Stewart gathered the puck, raced through the neutral zone, split a pair of defenders and finished off the sequence with a wrister over the shoulder of Tokarski for a 2-1 game 5:57 into the final stanza. Less than two minutes later, Brandon Prust worked the puck behind the net and Eller emerged with it, sending a backhander off the skate of Buffalo defenseman Nikita Zadorov into the net for a tied game. Pacioretty tapped in the rebound of Dale Weises shot from the right side of the net to give Montreal a 3-2 lead with 6:45 left in the third. The lead was short-lived, however, as Flynn backhanded Torrey Mitchells feed from behind the cage into the back of the net 49 seconds later. Enroth made four saves and Tokarski stopped three pucks in the extra session. Girgensons opened the scoring for Buffalo with 5:57 to play in the opening stanza. Nicolas Deslauriers sent a pass to Tyler Ennis, who tipped the puck in on net. Tokarski made the save, but Girgensons was parked in front to chip it over the Montreal netminders shoulder and into the net. Enroth made two big saves to keep Buffalos lead intact early in the second. He dove across the crease to stop Andrei Markovs shot with his blocker and then a few minutes later, he denied David Desharnais off a 2-on-1. Gallaghers shot clanged off the crossbar and hit the knob of Enroths stick at the goal line before ricocheting out of the crease. The play was reviewed and determined to be a good goal at 7:51 of the second. On the ice, I just thought I had hit the post and next thing you know, theyre reviewing it, said Gallagher. The video replays showed it was in and Ill take it. Game Notes Gallaghers goal was the first even-strength goal allowed by Enroth in a span of 296 minutes, 26 seconds, dating back to Nov. 13 when Minnesotas Kyle Brodziak scored at 9:21 of the first period in the Wilds 6-3 win ... Gallagher signed a six-year, $22.5 million contract extension earlier on Saturday ... Thurman and Thomas are just two examples in this series alone. When Emmitt Smith went down with an injury against the Packers on Jan. 8, 1995, Thomas replaced him and ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns to lead Dallas to a 35-9 win. Thomas had just 137 yards rushing and two TDs the entire season split between New England and the Cowboys.A decade earlier, Thurman intercepted three of Lynn Dickeys passes to help Dallas beat Green Bay 37-26 in a playoff game on Jan. 16, 1983. He returned one of those picks 39 yards for a TD.Here are potential unsung heroes for each of the NFL teams playing this weekend:RAVENS: Joe Flacco may be the new Joe Cool in the playoffs, but safety Will Hill could be the key to victory for Baltimore. Hill is responsible for trying to stop Rob Gronkowski. If Hill keeps the All-Pro tight end in check, the Ravens have a better shot at the upset.PATRIOTS: Shane Vereens numbers have steadily declined this season, but the Patriots need one of their running backs to deliver against a run defence that allowed the fourth-fewest yards in the league. LeGarrette Blount and Jonas Gray are also part of New Englands committee backfield. Vereen has extra motivation Saturday night facing former college teammate Justin Forsett.PANTHERS: Luke Kuechly and Seattles Bobby Wagner are All-Pro linebackers so most of the focus is on them. But another linebacker, Thomas Davis, will play an integral role for Carolinas defence. Davis has to help slow down Marshawn Lynch aand contain Russell Wilson.dddddddddddd While Kuechly draws the attention, Davis performance can go a long way toward lifting the Panthers to a major upset.SEAHAWKS: Rookie wide receiver Paul Richardson had 10 receptions for 112 yards in Seattles last two games after catching 19 passes the first 14. Richardson has big-play talent. The Seahawks had only one player — Doug Baldwin — catch more than 40 passes this season, so Wilson spreads the ball around.COLTS: Tight end Coby Fleener had 291 yards on nine of his receptions and gained first downs on 40 of his 51 catches. Andrew Luck and the Colts have a deep threat in T.Y. Hilton and the dependable, veteran hands of Reggie Wayne. Fleener, Lucks teammate at Stanford, is a go-to type of guy who can make a difference in a shootout.BRONCOS: Rookie cornerback Bradley Roby knocked down Lucks fourth-down pass to Wayne to seal Denvers 31-24 win over Indianapolis in Week 1. Now Roby has a chance to be the star in his first playoff game. Luck will likely target Roby more than the formidable duo of Chris Harris Jr. and Aqib Talib.COWBOYS: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has turned into Jerry Jones good-luck charm. Christie governs a state filled with fans of the Giants and Eagles, but he grew up rooting for the Cowboys and sat with Jones in the owners suite last week. His awkward, celebratory hug of Jones when the Cowboys sealed a win against Detroit was the punch line for quite a few jokes this week.PACKERS: Fullback John Kuhn earned All-Pro honours for doing the dirty work to help Green Bays offence soar this season. Kuhn doesnt get the ball much — 24 carries, 4 catches — but hes vital to the Packers success because hes an excellent lead blocker and pass protector.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.organd AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_RobMaaddiAuthentic Nike Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Tennessee Titans Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Washington Redskins Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Arizona Cardinals Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Denver Broncos Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Green Bay Packers Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Los Angeles Chargers Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike New England Patriots Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Oakland Raiders Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Seattle Seahawks Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Carolina Panthers Jerseys CheapAuthentic Nike Cleveland Browns Jerseys CheapCheap Throwback Baseball Arizona Diamondbacks JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Atlanta Braves JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Baltimore Orioles JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Boston Red Sox JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Chicago Cubs JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Chicago White Sox JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Cincinnati Reds JerseysCheap Throwback Baseball Cleveland Indians Jerseys ' ' '
