MIAMI - Dwyane Wade still gets angry. Just not as often. After a year like he had, that says something. It was eventful, often for unpleasant reasons such as his Miami Heat falling from the NBA mountaintop, a superstar friend deciding to leave the locker room they shared and a team rebuilding project. For him, 2014 was like none other. It was just a different year, Wade told The Associated Press. Every year you go into a new one, you do the New Years Eve resolutions and you sit there and think Yeah, this going to be the year. What I like to see from myself is how I respond to the moments where its not the highs. I know how I respond to the highs. But how do I respond in moments of truth?Hes finding out.The Heat are 14-19 as the calendar flips to 2015, barely hanging on to the No. 8 spot in a weak Eastern Conference. LeBron James is wearing a Cleveland uniform now. Miami lost 12 games in December alone, and thats after Wade lost millions in an effort to keep the teams championship core together last summer. How much he lost, only time will tell. He was guaranteed $41 million from the Heat through 2015-16 before opting out; his current deal assures $31 million over that span. The 32-year-old Wade could be a free agent again this summer, since next seasons contract is at his option.Ill be all right, Wade said with a shrug. It cost me a lot. But it wasnt The Decision that cost me, the three-time champion said of his opt-out move, and James choice to leave for Cleveland. It was my decision. I opted out for the better of the team, not for any individual. I opted out for the better of the team and it cost me some money. Im not concerned about it. Not overly concerned, anyway. This is when he reveals that hes happy, even with the Heat struggling. He has coaching privileges in practice now. If he doesnt like something, he can stop the play, correct and teach. Hes been encouraged to pull players aside and tell them what he wants, since what he wants and what the Heat want are almost always in perfect alignment. He has that experience, that impact with his voice, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. Hes been great in embracing that. Its the most leadership thats required of him since hes been here.Wades business deals keep growing and his marketability isnt suffering. He got married again last year, tying the knot with actress Gabrielle Union after years of dating. Hes a de facto father of four now; three of his kids, plus raising a nephew. And he can still play.Wade entered Thursday sixth in the NBA in scoring this season, at 23.2 points per game. Hes shooting 51 per cent. Among those who have taken at least 400 shots, only Anthony Davis and Nik Vucevic, big men who do most of their work at the rim, are shooting at a better clip.In my professional life, I got comfortable in a role and I thought maybe this is it, maybe this is how I end my career, Wade said. And then it changed and Im showing myself that I can still do the things I want to do. And my family, starting over as well. Its my second time getting married. Lets see if I can do it right this time, do it better. In separate interviews, Wade and Union referred to the changes in his life the same way — as a rebirth. Its a rebirth that came out of a reevaluation of life and priorities and needs and wants, Union said. And whats emerged like a rising from the phoenix is something so dope, I couldnt even imagine.Wade and Union spent most of the past two years remodeling their home, a process that took longer than either of them wanted or expected but they wound up pleased with the results. Wade sees the parallel with the Heat. A rebuilding project has started there, one he thinks will be worthwhile.I think Im responding OK, Wade said. I think 2014 was a pretty good year. And Im excited for whats next. M.J. Stewart Jersey . Grimes signed a $32 million, four-year contract to remain with Miami. Gagnon was 1.37 seconds off the lead in 16th after the super-G portion but went ahead of the field after posting the second fastest time in the slalom run. "Its really exciting, a magical moment," said Gagnon, who wasnt even born when Gerry Sorensen won a combined event in Puy St. Vincent, France, on Jan. 8, 1984 for the last triumph by a Canadian woman. "My teammate Erin Mielzynski won two years ago in Ofterschwang. She was the first Canadian woman to win in slalom in like 40 years," Gagnon said. "That was unbelievable and I didnt expect our team to make history again." Gagnon finished in an overall 2 minutes, 5.55 seconds to beat second-place Michaela Kirchgasser of Austria by 0.32. Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany trailed Gagnon by 0.39 in third. Nicole Hosp of Austria, who led the competition after the super-G, finished fourth. "Its amazing. I was quite surprised," said Gagnon, whose only previous podium came in a slalom in Are, Sweden, in 2012. "I didnt expect that after the first run. I knew I had to do a really good slalom run to be on the podium. I just tried to do my best and it looks like the pieces of the puzzle have come together." The super-combined format was introduced at the start of the 2005-06 season to replace the classic combined races, which consisted of one speed run followed by two slalom legs. No Canadian skier -- male or female -- had ever made the podium in a super-combined before. The last Canadian to get in the top three of any combined event was Emily Broydon, who came third in San Sicaro, Italy, in 2005. The combination of super-G and slalom at Sundays event suited Gagnon, who was in the top 10 of two super-G races this season and in the top six of all four slaloms. "I am happy with my season so far and this tops it off for sure,&quuot; said Gagnon, coming off a disappointing season following her first top-three finish at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.dddddddddddd "I ended that season really strongly and I came in the season after and I was expecting a lot," Gagnon said. "But I was trying too hard. This year, I just try my best. I know I have done all the work in training." Second-place Kirchgasser made an even bigger jump as she climbed from 20th after the super-G. "I knew something would still be possible (after the first run)," said the Austrian. "But after my slalom run, I first thought it wasnt enough." Kirchgasser failed to finish five races this season, but said she had forgotten about 2013 already, adding "2014 has been really good so far." Hoefl-Riesch regained the lead in the overall standings one day after she lost it to Austrias Anna Fenninger after Saturdays downhill. The German has 731 points and Fenninger, who finished eighth, 709. Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein is third with 673. "Of course I am really happy," Hoefl-Riesch said. "But theres also a little bit of disappointment. It wasnt perfect skiing from me. And I missed second place by 0.07 yesterday and again today. But all in all it was a very satisfying weekend." Earlier Sunday, most of the 19 starters who failed to finish the super-G went out at the Panorama, a sharp right turn about 40 seconds into the run. Going into the curve with too much speed made it difficult to make the next gate. Julia Mancuso, who won the super-combined in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee in 2007, also went out at that point. Her American teammate Lindsey Vonn, who has a record 12 podium finishes in super-combined including a win here in 2009, is out for the season because of a right knee injury. It was the first super-combined event of the season and the only one before the Sochi Olympics next month. The womens World Cup travels to nearby Flachau for a night slalom on Tuesday.
