ATLANTA -- Freddie Freeman heard fans calling his name and, with dark clouds moving in, he knew the grounds crew had just removed the cover from the infield tarp. What better time for a game-winning hit? Freemans single to the centre-field wall scored Jason Heyward from second base with two outs in the 10th inning on Sunday, lifting the Atlanta Braves to a 1-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds. "You live for moments like that when you want to be a big league player," Freeman said. "You hear the crowd chanting your name and you want to come through. So it was a pretty cool moment." Freemans big hit saved the game from an almost certain wait through bad weather. "I was like, Yes, we dont have to go to any more innings and we wont have a rain delay," Freeman said. "We were all thinking about it." Sure enough, minutes after the postgame celebration ended on the field, a thunderstorm brought lightning and heavy rain to Turner Field. Cincinnatis Johnny Cueto and Atlantas Julio Teheran were spectacular. Each allowed only three hits in eight scoreless innings before giving way to relievers. "It was a great game," Cueto said through a translator. "We both competed. Things went good for us, him and me." Cueto struck out 11. He has allowed only one run in his last three starts, leaving him with a 1.15 ERA. Teheran also has given up just one run in his last three starts. His 1.47 ERA has helped the Braves starters lead the majors with their 1.57 mark. "He just keeps getting better and better," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. With two outs in the 10th, Heyward hit a single up the middle off J.J. Hoover (1-3). B.J. Upton followed with a grounder that bounced off Hoovers glove toward shortstop for an infield hit. "I thought I had it and it kind of hit a second gear and just tipped out of my glove," Hoover said. Left-hander Manny Parra was summoned to face Freeman, who hit a second-pitch fastball for a drive that bounced on the warning track beyond centre fielder Billy Hamiltons reach. Braves players swarmed Freeman at second base following Atlantas first three-game sweep of the Reds since 2008. Freeman tried to duck from the swarm of congratulatory slaps and swats. "I got hit from every angle, but its always a good feeling," he said. The Reds couldnt take advantage of a scoring opportunity in the 10th. Ryan Ludwick hit a one-out single off David Carpenter and moved to second on Zack Cozarts two-out single. Pitcher Mike Leake pinch-ran for Ludwick at second base. Atlanta left-hander Ian Thomas (1-0) ended the threat by getting pinch-hitter Roger Bernadina to pop up. Cueto, coming off back-to-back, complete-game wins over Pittsburgh, finished one strikeout away from his career high of 12 set April 16 against the Pirates. Teheran struck out five and walked two. Jordan Walden maintained the impressive pitching by recording two strikeouts in a perfect ninth. Reds manager Bryan Price and pitcher Homer Bailey were ejected in the first inning after a replay ruling went against them. Price asked for a replay after first-base umpire Greg Gibson called Upton safe on a pickoff throw from Johnny Cueto. The replays shown on the video board indicated first baseman Joey Votto may have applied the tag before Upton reached the bag. Price came back out of the dugout after the ruling that the call stands, meaning there was not "clear and convincing" evidence to overturn it. Price was ejected by crew chief Bill Miller, the second-base umpire. Miller also tossed Bailey, who argued from the Reds dugout. "In the end, you have the biggest Jumbotron in the country out there in centre field that would strongly suggest that the runner was out on the pickoff," Price said. "And then to say that hes not seems to contradict what everyone in the ballpark thought was an out. I didnt get it. It didnt make any sense to me." At the end of the day, youve got to tell him, Im the boss, and I want to be here. So thats what I had to do.The comments were Williams first since general manager Doug Whaley revealed on Monday the Bills granted Engelhard permission to seek a trade. It happened a day after Williams was listed inactive for the first time this season in a 37-22 loss to New England.Williams said Engelhard informed him of his intentions to seek a potential trade following the game. Williams also defended his agent by saying Engelhard was merely doing his job.Though Williams accepted coach Doug Marrones decision to deactivate him, he was still hurt by the move.I mean, you ask yourself if youre a touchdown-scoring machine, and you feel like you can help the team win: Would you be disappointed? he said. Of course Im disappointed I aint playing. Anybody thats competitive, theyve got to be disappointed. I might as well retire if Im not disappointed.Williams is now turning his attention to getting a chance to crack the Bills 45-player roster on Sunday, when Buffalo (3-3) hosts Minnesota (2-4).Marrone didnt provide any hints as to when Williams will get a chance to play again.Williams was benched because Marrone needed to open a roster spot after learning starting defensive tackle Kyle Williams had a good chance to play after missing the previous week with a right knee injury.Williams became the odd-receiver out because fellow backup Chris Hogan also plays a role on special teams.Marrone was annoyed by the distraction Williams created, even though hes aware it was the players agent who prompted the trade request.Yeahh, Im not going to lie, Marrone said.dddddddddddd Someone elses problems all of a sudden become my problems. The benching was a first for Williams, who grew up in Buffalo and played under Marrone at Syracuse. He had never been listed inactive when healthy during his previous four seasons in Tampa Bay.And it was the latest setback for a player who was expected to play a vital role in Buffalo after the Bills acquired him in a trade with the Buccaneers in April.Williams had 216 catches for 2,947 yards and 25 touchdowns in 54 games in Tampa Bay.In Buffalo, hes had difficulty getting on the field behind rookie first-round pick Sammy Watkins and second-year receiver Robert Woods. Williams has eight catches for 142 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown in a 23-17 loss at Houston last month.Williams said the benching caught him by surprise after he had spent the week practicing with the starters, and also putting in extra time working with the Bills scout team. He was also unhappy with the timing of the decision, saying Marrone informed him on Saturday.I wear my emotions on my sleeve, Williams said. Id be upset every week I dont dress. ... But also know that Im a team player, too. It was nothing like I was trying go away from the team or anything.Williams was upbeat during the practice period that is open to the media on Wednesday. It was nothing different. I didnt change my routine, he said. I keep on playing for the Bills, keep on practicing hard. The only thing different is his objective.I wasnt one of the top 45 last week, Williams said. Hopefully, Ill be one of the top 45 this week.NOTES: The NFL trade deadline is Oct. 28. ... DT Marcell Dareus was excused from practice because of family reasons. He is expected to rejoin the team Thursday. ... Long-snapper Garrison Sanborn was limited in practice because of a knee injury. Without revealing who, Marrone said the Bills worked out two free-agent long-snappers as a precaution.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFLAuthentic Steelers JerseysAuthentic Cowboys JerseysAuthentic Raiders JerseysAuthentic Chiefs JerseysAuthentic Eagles JerseysAuthentic Redskins JerseysAuthentic Falcons JerseysAuthentic Ravens JerseysAuthentic Browns JerseysAuthentic Cardinals JerseysAuthentic Bills JerseysAuthentic Panthers JerseysAuthentic Bears JerseysAuthentic Bengals JerseysAuthentic Texans JerseysAuthentic Broncos JerseysAuthentic Lions JerseysAuthentic Packers JerseysAuthentic Jets JerseysAuthentic Dolphins JerseysAuthentic Patriots JerseysAuthentic Jaguars JerseysAuthentic Titans JerseysAuthentic Chargers JerseysAuthentic Giants JerseysAuthentic Saints JerseysAuthentic Buccaneers JerseysAuthentic 49ers JerseysAuthentic Seahawks JerseysAuthentic Rams JerseysAuthentic Vikings JerseysAuthentic Colts Jerseys ' ' '
