MONTREAL (AP) — A healthy Johnny Manziel is wondering why he’s isn’t starting for the Montreal Alouettes. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback returned to practice Thursday and asked out loud if the club had lost faith in him.The 25-year-old said he had been healthy and available to play for the previous two weeks Womens Jarrad Davis Jersey , fully recovered from the concussion he suffered in his second start for the Als — a 24-17 loss to Ottawa on Aug. 11.“If the club had faith in me, I feel like I would be the guy, I feel like I would’ve been the guy after I came back from the concussion,” Manziel said. “That hasn’t happened, so I need to continue to get out here. And it’s the hardest part about missing practice, I need these reps to try to leave as little doubt as possible in my ability to play.”Manziel was at practice for the first time this week after being sidelined by a flu bug that required IVs to replace fluids Tuesday and Wednesday. While he said he good well enough to play Friday night when the Alouettes (3-8-0) host the B.C. Lions (4-6-0), Antonio Pipkin is expected to start. Matthew Shiltz is the other quarterback on the roster.“I hope this organization, I hope the people here haven’t lost faith in my ability to play, and I still get a chance to come back and get a chance to be in with the (starters) and play, because that’s what I came up here to do and that’s what I want to do,” Manziel said.Als coach Mike Sherman said it was “too soon” to predict whether Manziel would be the team’s third quarterback Friday.“Seems like he’s doing better, so we’ll evaluate him a little bit more. I really haven’t even talked to the trainers about him other than the face they gave him IVs yesterday at the doctors, and he’s feeling much better today,” Sherman said.Manziel, with a white baseball cap pulled low over his eyes, did little but watch Thursday’s pregame walkthrough at Montreal’s practice facility in the shadow of Olympic Stadium. At times, he spun a football in his hand.In a six-minute interview with reporters afterward, he said he feels as if he’s spinning his wheels with his second CFL team. What’s particularly frustrating, he said, is the Alouettes traded “half of an organization I feel like in terms of what they gave up to get me here.”The Hamilton Tiger-Cats dealt Manziel and offensive linemen Tony Washington and Landon Rice to Montreal on July 22 for Canadian defensive end Jamaal Westerman and receiver Chris Williams as well as 2020 and 2021 first-round picks.Manziel Matthew Stafford Jersey White , who made headlines when he signed a two-year contract with Hamilton prior to the start of training camp, didn’t see any regular-season action backing up Ticats incumbent Jeremiah Masoli. It’s hard, he said, not to see similarities in his current situation.“That’s where maybe it’s a little bit lost on me, because I felt like I was brought in here to be a piece, had a lot of faith in me the first couple of weeks I was here . . . since I missed the games because of the concussion and then not getting to play once I was back has been frustrating for sure, because I felt like there was a lot of hope, and a lot of faith in me being the guy here,” he said.“How quickly that’s changed in two weeks is tough.”Pipkin has led Montreal to consecutive victories and is 2-1 as the club’s starter. He has 762 yards passing with a TD and four interceptions while having rushed for 127 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries.Manziel has started two games for Montreal, both losses. He has completed 27 of 46 passes for 272 yards and four interceptions.Manziel, who served as Pipkin’s backup for the Als’ 21-11 victory over the Redblacks on Aug. 31, recalled something Sherman told him when he first arrived in Montreal.“He said ‘This has to work, and this will work,'” said Manziel, who has known Sherman since the coach recruited him to play at Texas A&M. “And I feel a little frustrated at this point, because coming off the injury, I’m not getting a chance to play, and I’m sick, I miss a couple days of practice, and now I feel I put myself way behind where I need to be.”He added: “But I’m going to continue to be the best teammate I can be Nick Bellore Jersey White , and I’m going to continue to be the best person for this organization, regardless of who’s playing or what the case is, or frustration.”Veterans Drew Willy, Jeff Mathews and Vernon Adams are all on the club’s six-game injured list.FOX Fantasy AutoForm a Racing Team, Compete for PrizesPlay Now! Now into Week 3 of training camp, we’re starting to get a firm grasp of which players are locks and which players will likely be off the roster come September. But there’s still a fairly sizable middle group of players that will spend the entire preseason fighting for a spot on this team’s 53-man roster. So like we do every week, I’ve convened the Pride of Detroit staff to give their opinions on the Lions roster bubble. Each week we check the progress of players and see which are trending up or trending down. Let’s start with the offense:Bubble Watch Week 3: Offense PlayerJeremy ReismanKent LeeRyan MathewsMike PaytonHamzaAlex RenoAndrew KatoMansur ShaheenKyle YostJustin SimonJohn WhiticarChangePlayerJeremy ReismanKent LeeRyan MathewsMike PaytonHamzaAlex RenoAndrew KatoMansur ShaheenKyle YostJustin SimonJohn WhiticarChangeNew to Bubble Watch: N/AOff the bubble: Oday Aboushi, Kenny WigginsAt this point, there doesn’t seem to be any question that both Aboushi and Wiggins will make the roster. The question is which will be starting, and even then, it appears Wiggins has the leg up.Biggest risers: Jermaine Kearse (+4)Biggest faller: Andrew Donnal (-1), Ryan Pope (-1), Beau Benzschawel (-1)Jermaine Kearse was clearly the big winner from Week 2 of training camp. He finished the week with a couple strong sets of practices, and the staff here thinks he’s established himself from the crowded receiver competition. All 11 of the staff members here believe he’s currently on the roster, while Travis Fulgham is not far behind with nine of 11 votes. On the offensive line, the only real debate is to whether the Lions will use an extra roster spot on someone like Andrew Donnal. Currently, eight of 11 still believe he’s in, but that’s one fewer than last week. The undrafted rookie combo of Ryan Pope and Beau Benzschawel—once thought to be diamonds in the rough—now have no votes between them and are in danger of falling off the bubble completely. The safety position is loaded Damon Harrison Jersey White , and there may not be room for a guy like Wilson, who’s pushing 30. Wilson opens his Bubble Watch appearance with the support of just three staffers, but Monday’s impressive practice could have him on the rise for next week. Anthony Pittman was another undrafted rookie who created some early buzz. But despite the many injuries to the linebacking corps, he hasn’t made the most of his opportunities.Biggest risers: Eric Lee (+3), John Atkins, (+3), Miles Killebrew (+2)Biggest fallers: Mitchell Loewen (-4), Teez Tabor (-2), Marcus Cooper (-2)Thanks to continued injuries along the defensive front, defensive end Eric Lee and defensive tackle John Atkins have seen plenty of time with the Lions’ first-team defense. That alone seems to have convince much of the staff that both will find a spot on the roster as a reserve lineman. Both Lee and Atkins still have more OUT votes than IN, but they’re trending in the right direction. Miles Killebrew also gained some support, likely because of the high praise head coach Matt Patricia sent his way last week. At this point, only three staffers have him on the outside looking in.The Lions cornerbacks saw a big shift in the bubble this week. With Teez Tabor and Marcus Cooper both dealing with injuries, they are starting to slide into dangerous territory. Those players are in desperate need of playing time to prove their worth, and sitting on the sidelines won’t help their chances. The Mitchell Loewen hype lasted exactly one week after a strong open to camp. Loewen is still getting the early playing time, but with the return of Romeo Okwara, his play has been overshadowed a bit. Still, seven PODers still have him on their roster.
